Building your channel on You Tube is difficult when you are a just getting started. There is no guidebook for how to promote your You Tube channel. Often, some of the things that are looked down on are actually the best way to build a channel with a huge following. The most difficult decision is choosing the direction you want your channel to grow into. I chose to build a channel that was based on encouraging smaller channels and younger you tubers. It isn’t my goal to build the largest following, but it is my goal to build an active community of like minded gamers.
When i started my You Tube channel, I was unaware of the unwritten rules of the commentating community. I was excited to see my first subscribers, but i later learned that they subscribed only because they wanted me to subscribe to them. I didn’t know what a “sub box” was, so i was excited to learn that adding me meant that someone enjoyed my commentaries and wanted to be associated with my channel.
Sub For Sub Dilemma -
vs. 
I NEVER subscribe to any channel on a Sub for Sub basis. I would never subscribe to someone who specifically asked for a SUB 4 SUB, but i do often to subscribe to smaller channel that ask for my subscription. I see it as a nice way to encourage smaller channels. Often, smaller channels subscribe to me and then ask for advice or encouragement. That is what I started doing this for. My goal in the whole You Tube commentary game is to build a lasting community that supports every member. I think that we have all done a great job at making it work out that way so far.
The Rules -
There are unwritten rules, but the main thing is that you stay true to your channel and promote it in anyway that helps you build your channel into a channel that you can be proud of.
